ADB Pledges USD2.57B in Sovereign Loans to Bangladesh
The Manila-headquartered institution announced Monday that these funds will flow into critical sectors including energy infrastructure, transportation networks, banking sector overhauls, urban service expansion, climate adaptation measures, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
According to the statement, financing will extend to enhancing living conditions and public services throughout Cox's Bazar district in Bangladesh's southeast region.
Hoe Yun Jeong, ADB Country Director for Bangladesh, emphasized the institution's dedication during challenging times: "We proudly reaffirm our commitment to supporting Bangladesh's priorities during this significant transition period, which is further complicated by an increasingly challenging global landscape."
Jeong elaborated on the partnership's scope: "Our 2025 commitments underscore our enduring partnership with Bangladesh and our shared focus, in close collaboration with the Economic Relations Division (ERD) and other government ministries and agencies, on economic diversification, enhanced infrastructure and services, and human development."
The development bank stressed that its 2025 funding blueprint places substantial emphasis on infrastructure modernization and institutional reform initiatives.
